A Visual Novel is an interactive novel or game that features static graphics, usually in Anime/Manga style, music and even occasional Voice Acting. It has minimal gameplay and heavy emphasis towards plot and character(s). They are similar to Choose your own Adventure novels. The main difference is that the narration is often told in the first person point of view.

It is important to remember that there are many types of Visual Novels and styles of presentation.It's a very flexible genre where you can add mechanics that found in RPGs, Simulation and other game genres.
